Lady Barnett's Cookbook
Lady Barnett, a British TV personality, compiled what she called "straight forward recipes in order to make entertaining as simple - and still as pleasant - as possible." A cookbook with the sole purpose that "entertaining should be fun and that the hostess should be able to enjoy her party and her guests."
Published in 1969. Cookery Book Club first edition
The book is broken up into several entertaining chapters, from The Two Vegetables of Old England, to Fishes in Dishes, before ending with a chapter dedicated to Lazy Cooks, and - finally - Coffee. "NO British housewife would dream of heating up old tea."
My favourite part: "The book is set in large type so that even if you forget your spectacles you can still refer to it, and space is left for additional entries or scribbled notes after recipes."
