Clare Goes Cooking by Shelagh Fraser
A cookbook in pictures for young people
Published in 1962 by Arco Publications. First edition
Shelagh Fraser conceived the idea for Clare Goes Cooking while offering her mother - a ballet dancer - help with the cooking. But Fraser, a child at the time, found the recipes in cookbooks complicated; lots of long words and no pictures. So her mother painted a whole book of recipes for her, with clear instructions told through illustration.
Although her mother is not the illustrator of this book, produced when Fraser was an adult (and an actor, who would later go on to appear in Star Wars), the initial idea is the same - teaching young people to cook through pictures
